Nach Upgrade auf VMWARE 10 Pro startet Virtuelle Maschine nicht mehr

$

Ratlos. Alles neu aufsetzen?

iMac (late 2011) - Can it Run Fusion 10?

Got a mid-2011 iMac running OS X 10.12.6 Sierra. Would like to upgrade WMWare so it can run on the computer.

Problem: the Tech Requirements say 2 different things for Fusion and for Metal Rendering Engine. And I mostly use Fusion for graphics programs. For Fusion 10, the iMac is supported. For MRE, it requires late-2012 iMac - vid:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205073/

But if Metal isn't supported by my machine, and it's key to how Fusion handles graphics, and I'm using the Mac for graphics, what kind of problems am I getting myself into?

Am I better off going with Fusion 9? I can't find a requirements page for it to check, and don't know where to buy it.

Any assistance appreciated.

Use screen native resolution on Retina MacBook

I have a 2017 12" MacBook.

It has a 2304x1440 retina screen. In macOS I use a scaled resolution that looks like 1440x900, which I understand it renders everything 2x bigger on a 2880x1800 offscreen buffer, then it is scaled to match the native resolution.

I'm using VMware Fusion 10 to run a Windows 10 VM, always in full screen mode. If I select "use full retina resolution", Windows 10 thinks the screen is 2880x1800 and it scales the desktop 200%, and if I don't, the screen is 1440x900 with no scaling. The first option seems OK, as everything is pretty sharp, but as I'm a 3D software developer, my OpenGL application needs to render too many pixels, making it very slow. If I use the second option, the application runs much faster, but everything is blurry, as it is scaling up from 1440x900 to 2304x1440.

Is it possible to use the native resolution on the VM when it is in fullscreen mode?

Thanks,

Enric

VMWare Fusion 10, Attach physical APFS volume to Mac VM

VMWare Fusion 10.

Host OS:  macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Guest OS: macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I've formatted my internal SSD on my MacBook Pro as APFS.  Using the "Add Volume" feature in Disk Utility, I can create as many volumes as I like and they all share the 2TB between them - feature of APFS in High Sierra.

So I create a volume and then I follow instructions like these or one or two others that say the same thing:  HappyMac™ - VMware Fusion: Adding a raw physical disc

Sadly it doesn't work.

The disk identifier for the disk I want to add is disk1s1.  I name the vmdk file 'disk1s1-link.vmdk'.   I confirm that the volume in question's identifier is still disk1s1 and it is.  I try to start the VM and the first message I get is:

File not found: disk1s1-link.vmdk

This file is required to power on this virtual machine.  If this file was moved, specify the new location.

[Cancel] [ Browse...]

If I hit [Browse...] I navigate to the disk1s1-link.vmdk file and choose it.  That seems to get accepted. Then I get this message:

Resource busy

Cannot open the disco '<path>/disk1s1-link.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

Module 'Disk' power on failed.

Failed to start the virtual machine.

[OK]

This happens whether the volume that the vmdk file points to is mounted or unmounted.

I'm guessing this might just be that the 'vmware-rawdiskCreator create' and other stuff required to make all this work just isn't compatible with APFS yet... but is that really it?  Or am I actually doing something wrong?  Has anyone else had any success with this?

I'd appreciate any help.  Thanks!

macOS High Sierra and VMware Fusion 10.0.1

Hey there, I will make this as short as possible by presenting you all the problems I encounter by using Fusion 10.0.1 on macOS High Sierra (MacBook Pro 2015).

First of all. Downloading Windows 10 was almost impossible, I had to delete/reinstall the VM 5 times until it decided to work.

On all my VM's all my USB keys are not detected by the VM, they're automaticaly connected to my mac without even asking me were I want to connect it (I checked the Bluetooth and USB settings). Plus I used Fusion 8.x for a while and I never encountered any of these problems.

The last problem is that when I enable CD/DVD Drive, it tells me when I run Windows and Ubuntu this message : Cannot connect the virtual device sata0:1 because no corresponding device is available on the host. The same issue occurs on SCSI and IDE. However, I don't get this message on kali linux.

This is unacceptable that I can't use my usb keys and usb wireless adapters on my VM's. That I had to delete/reinstall windows more than 5 times until it decided to work ! (Each time it was sending me some kind of blue screen of death and telling that X file was missing...)

Is anyone else encountering these problems ? If yes did you find solutions to them ?

Thank you for your answers.

Window focus issues in Unity mode

$

I updated to Fusion 8.1.0 while still using Yosemite (OS X 10.10) and immediately noticed an issue where windows for Windows applications would take focus when the cursor moved over them or a Windows application was performing a background operation without user interaction despite the fact that I was working in an OS X application. At the time there were other screen rendering issues and everything seemed to be resolved once I upgraded to El Capitan (OS X 10.11), as that upgrade had several enhancements for iMacs with retina displays.

Well today, in particular, I noticed that the window focus problem was back in full swing. I was working in OmniGraffle and every time I navigated my cursor over to the Color palette, the Microsoft Word window behind the Color palette would take focus and all other Windows windows would also come to the foreground ahead of any OS X windows that were in front of them. Also, anytime an e-mail popup occurs from Outlook, all of the Windows application windows come to the foreground despite the fact that I am working in an OS X window. I use Unit mode because of my workflow—I need to be able to switch between Mac and Windows applications seamlessly just as if I were working in a single OS—and this bug is disrupting my workflow.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

macOS High Sierra get "can not find a valid peer process to connect to", when startup a vm.

Hello,

I use mac High  Sierra, and download a Fusion Professional 10.0.1 for 30 days trial version. I continuously get  "can not find a valid peer process to connect to" notification, when I try to install any OS from image.

I am new to use fusion, I try to uninstall the Fusion ( both manually Manually uninstalling VMware Fusion (1017838) | VMware KB  and using cleanapp ), and reinstall the Fusion again (for multiple times), but I still get the same error.

I am so confused, I do not know where to find the log to locate to problem. Did anyone meet the same problem. please give me some help, thanks in advance.

Can not turn off Bluetooth after I installed VMWare Fusion 10.0.1

Hello there,

I would like to know how to enable the turn off function of Bluetooth of MacBook Pro like I could use the function right after I installed VMware Fusion 10.0.1.

I can not turn it off on Host OS after I installed VMWare Fusion somehow. If I want to turn it off, I have to reboot my MacBook which is taking so long to boot up. It's terrible. So, I would like to avoid rebooting. Please advice me if you know.

Sincerely,

VMware Fusion 10 forces itself into $PATH

Hi,

I'm not that impressed that upon startup VMware Fusion Pro 10 forces itself to make an entry in: "/etc/paths.d" with: "com.vmware.fusion.public", which has the following content in it: "/Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Public", so now my "echo $PATH" has been modified not to my liking. I can manually remove your entry in "/etc/paths.d", but it gets forced back in upon startup of VMware Fusion every time. I guess you want to make it easy for users to execute commands such as: "vmrun ...". However, its far from ideal that you are forcing a permanent change of a users PATH entry, which could lead to false-positives, which is what I experienced. TBH, this behaviour feels a bit like a virus...better VMware tutorials and documentation is the correct solution here.

Thoughts?

Mike

Cant run copied VM -Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded.

Hi Community,

I've just done a clean install of High Serria, and am trying to run my backed up copy of a windows VM. Not so simple eh!

There is an error message "Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory. Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded."

I'm guessing that I'm not the first here to have this, and that someone may be able to put me back on course.

I have tried a good bit of Googling around and reading back a few pages here, but no luck.

Thanks in advance if you know, and could take a second to explain what to do.

Upgraded to High Sierra and now my Windows VM is gone

Hi folks;

As my Subject says, I upgraded to High Sierra and when my mac restarted, I noticed that my VMWare fusion was bouncing in the dock (VMWare starts on login).

What I have is Windows 7 VM and the icon is blank. I saw a message saying file not found.

The following day I realized I would have to upgrade Fusion to V10, so I purchased the upgrade. Still no joy. It's in the same state.

I suspect that upgrading to High Sierra has destroyed my VM. I have no backup as my NAS died a few weeks back.

What do I do now? Have I lost my Windows 7?

Thanks for replies.

Linux Virtual machine overflow, takes up disk space

I had Ubuntu 17.04 running in VMware when suddenly the whole macOS system slowed down and became nearly unuseable. I was running sudo apt-get upgrade inside a terminal in Ubuntu when I noticed the command didn’t seem to get executed since the terminal became stuck. Shortly thereafter macOS threw out a “disk space almost full” notification and as I checked the .vmware file inside my documents folder it had grewn from 15GB up to 2 TB taking up all my disk space. I killed every VMware process, deleted the .vmware file and rebooted my Mac. Now everything’s working again but I figure this shouldn’t happen normally.

Trouble Getting Windows 7 Installed

$

I have a fresh Hard Drive on a MacBook Pro, previously running Fusion 8 Successfully.  No problem on the Mac side running El Capitan.

Easy to get Fusion 8 installed as it was on this machine before.  But windows 7 (full installation disk)  will not install from a Disk on an External DVD player.

Under CREATE A NEW VIRTUAL MACHINE, it recognizes the disk, but I cannot go to CONTINUE to open it. Continue is DARK.

Any help or advise is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Karl

I upgraded to vmware fusion 10.0 because vmware claimed it supported IOMMU. No documention.. can I map pci devices or not ?

I want to build an environment to experiment with Tensorflow.   I upgraded Fusion on my Mac because Vmare claims support for IOMMU.   The MacPro6,1 has a Falcon Ridge IOMMU

I want to use my eGPU (Akitio Node w/NVIDIA GTX 970) in a Linux VM.   I installed Vmware Fusion 10.  VM CPU Resources lists IOMMU as an option.  There's no documentation on how to use it.

Was Vmware incorrect in listing the option ?   If they were I just want a refund.    I'll boot Linux baremetal on my Macpro6,1.

I'd prefer to create test environments in a VM.    Please let me know how to implement IOMMU with Vmware Fusion 10.

VMWare Tools in Debian Jessie

Debian Jessie is installed on VMWare using a Mac. I followed these guidelines to install Open VM Tools:
VMware Documentation for Debian 8

Sharing files between OS X and Debian Jessie proves not possible, Debian Jessie tels me to install VMWare Tools.

According to the same guidelines VMWare Tools can only be installed in text mode, not in graphical mode.

Problem: how to get Debian Jessie in text mode?

VMWare Fusion Pro 10 Mac Menu Bar Icon

Hello all,

I can locate a whole host of threads asking how one would remove the VMWare Fusion 8 menu button (I believe it was officially called the "Applications Menu") from the (top right corner) of their mac top bar. However, after updating to Fusion 10, that button is no longer there. I may be one of the few who actually like that functionality, but advice for readding that button would be much appreciated.

For reference, enabling and disabling said button in Fusion 8.5 went as follows:

VMware Fusion (menu in top-left) > Preferences... > General, then next to Applications Menu choose "Never".

^I want to accomplish the opposite of this. And yes, I have checked that preferences pane, and the Applications Menu option no longer exists there.

Cheers,

-Christian
